This L.A.-based genderqueer shoe designer/entrepreneur refuses to be confined by traditional societal boundaries and definitions – or limited by shoes that don’t fit. After searching for many years for well-made, masculine shoes to fit their female-born feet, they created the world’s first footwear label specifically designed to sever the gender binary within the fashion industry. A transplant from New York, NiK relocated to LA to study at Pepperdine University, where they earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and in Advertising. After spending time in Japan and Singapore, NiK decided to settle back in L.A. and established a career in advertising. In 2013, in pursuit of their dream, NiK left the comfort and security of their job at Google and dedicated their time to creating stylish, gender equal shoes that will change the way individuals think about fashion and style. When NiK is not traveling to craft or promote their brand, NiK is passionate about LGBTQ+, human and equal rights, photography, painting, animal rescue, the culinary arts, motorcycles, spending quality time with friends and family. In 2018, NiK Kacy created the first LGBTQ+ -focused Fashion Week in Los Angeles called Equality Fashion Week, which featured queer POC designers and over 100 queer, trans, non-binary models. NiK has also produced and co-produced other impactful events such as Queer Prom, Trans Pride LB (stage performances only), Fem(me), Women's Freedom Festival, Transgender Day of Visibility, Transgender Day of Remembrance, and many more. NiK is currently on the Board of APAIT, an Advisory Board member of The Q26 and has had roles including LGBTQ+ Commissioner for the City of West Hollywood, Trans Advisory Board for West Hollywood, Board Member of the LA Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of TransCanWork, and continues to be part of the Trans Inclusion Task Force for the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, and mentors other TGI small business owners on how to get certified with as a LGBTBE.
